Elisenda Feliu appointed professor
The dean has appointed Elisenda Feliu as professor of mathematics at the Department of Mathematical Sciences from 1 July 2023.
Elisenda was employed at the Department of Mathematics as a postdoctoral fellow in 2012, an assistant professor in 2014, and an associate professor in 2015. She is one of the leading forces in the research group Mathematical Biology ("Mathematics of reaction networks"), which focuses on the development of mathematical theory to analyze mathematical models that arise from the study of systems of (bio)chemical reactions.
Elisenda has a bachelor's, master's, and PhD degree from the Universitat de Barcelona, Spain, supplemented by a master's in Bioinformatics. From 2010 to 2012, she was employed as a postdoc at the Bioinformatics Research Centre, Aarhus University.
Elisenda has received several grants from the Independent Research Fund Denmark, research support from the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Lundbeck Foundation, etc. Last year, she received the prestigious ERC Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council.
Elisenda stated in this connection:
- I take it as a recognition of my work during the past ten years building my research profile at the intersection of applied algebra and mathematical biology. The grant gives me excellent conditions to address some exciting and challenging new research problems with a strong team of junior researchers.
Elisenda is a member of the mathematics panel in the Spanish Research Agency (Agencia Estatal de Investigación), a board member of the European Society for Mathematical and Theoretical Biology (ESMTB), associate editor of the journal Mathematical Biosciences, and chairperson of the diversity committee at the Department of Mathematics.
