InterAct Day about fairness and smoothing

Annual meeting

The second InterAct Day on 15 November 2024 had around 65 participants, who benefited from new research insights and networking opportunities.

Mogens Steffensen presented the vision

The InterAct Day is organised annually throughout the lifetime of the InterAct project frame. It aims to communicate the project frame's research activities to the Industrial Partners and the broader actuarial community.

In the morning, project frame manager and Head of Department Mogens Steffensen presented the vision behind InterAct: to elevate the research and education activities in actuarial mathematics with and towards the industry.

There were research presentations by the current PhD students of InterAct. Tessa Steensgaard talked about Invariant learning with application to fairness, and Philipp C. Hornung talked about Smoothing for unit-linked contracts.

“This second InterAct Day was special in two ways. It was the first time that the project frame hosted an event also targeted at the broader actuarial community, and it was the first time that our PhD students presented tangible research results to the partners”, says Associate Professor Christian Furrer, member of the Steering Committee.

The afternoon program was only open to the partners of the project frame. Here newly appointed professor Line Clemmensen shared her experiences with and perspectives on industrial collaboration. The day concluded with shorter contributions from the Industrial Partners about smoothing, complementing Philipp’s presentation.

“It was a delight to witness the enthusiasm of the partners towards the PhD students' research and to exchange views and ideas”, says Christian Furrer.
