Popular internship at MATH
Once a year, high school students have the opportunity to apply for a three-day internship at the Danish universities. There is only room for 30 interns here at MATH, and the department is very much in demand.
This year the internship took place between the 21st and the 23rd of October and the lucky interns had the opportunity to follow some first-year mathematics students around to their lectures, classroom lessons and exercises.
As the difference in level between first year students and high school students is large, the interns were also invited to a number of lectures and exercise sessions adjusted specifically to them.
- The trainees were happy to be here, and most of them said that the internship had made them even more inclined to study mathematics. However, there were also a few who left after the first day. But that’s fine, explains Freja Elbro, educational officer at the Department of Mathematical Sciences:
- It is important that high school students understand what it means to study mathematics at university level. It would be ideal if we could offer far more high school students a taste of university life, says Freja.
