Matthias Christandl appointed Turing Chair
Professor Matthias Christandl has been appointed the “2024 Turing Chair” at the Dutch research centre for quantum software & technology, QUSoft.
QuSoft’s mission is to develop new protocols, algorithms and applications that can be run on small to full-scale prototypes of a quantum computer.
The Turing Chair is a rotating honorary position at the Faculty of Science of the University of Amsterdam, associated with QuSoft. Previous Turing Chairs include distinguished researchers such as Gilles Brassard (2022-2023).
“Matthias Christandl’s appointment as Turing Chair promises to foster a diverse range of academic activities, discussions, and collaborations, enriching the QuSoft and Amsterdam scientific communities,” says QuSoft in their announcement.
“I am very honoured to be awarded this prestigious position, and I am very much looking forward to spending time in Amsterdam this Fall,” says Matthias Christandl.
“I have been visiting Prof. Harry Buhrman in Amsterdam since my time as PhD student in Cambridge and the development of QuSoft has always been the example of a thriving environment for theoretical quantum information science and an inspiration for QMATH and the Quantum for Life Centre in Copenhagen.”
Matthias Christandl is Centre Leader of the Quantum for Life Center funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and co-PI (principal investigator) of the VILLUM Foundation’s QMATH centre (Centre for the Mathematics of Quantum Theory). He is also head of the University of Copenhagen’s Quantum Hub, a cross-departmental and cross-faculty collaborative initiative. His extensive expertise spans quantum information, quantum cryptography, and mathematical physics.
