MATH/DIKU merger meets strong resistance

Staff and students at both departments are against the merger - as was the case when the plans were discussed three years ago.

We are now in a "discussion phase". It was meant to be very short but has now been extended to 3 November 2014. Then the Faculty Management, “following a weighing of the views presented”, will send its final recommendation to Rector who will make a decision. The merger is proposed to take place only eight weeks after this deadline.

If you want an idea of what has happened in the discussion phase, how are the arguments, where are the fronts, the magazine and website Uniavisen gives a good overview - in Danish. The English version, University Post, don’t get as many debates, so there you can mostly find the Deans proposal and his arguments.

But also: "Open letter - Professors warn against planned merger" - from all scientific employed at the Department of Computer Science. And latest: Why Mathematical Sciences and Computer Sciences should not be merged - by the four heads of section at MATH.

Several other staff groups and individuals have submitted critical debates to Uniavisen concerning the merger. 

At MATH the Department Council, the Collaboration Committee and the Department Occupational Health and Safety Committee is writing on a common official response.
