Alexander Gjelsvik Ravnanger, PhD student
Alexander was hired on 1 September 2024 as a PhD student in the section for Analysis & Quantum, with Mikael Rørdam as his supervisor.
Alexander was born and raised in Norway and holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from the University of Oslo.
“Mathematically, I am interested in operator algebras arising from groups, in particular groups that act on C*-algebras. The most prominent examples of such are the group C*-algebras and the crossed products. In my master’s thesis, I worked with another such algebra, called the Fourier-Stieltjes algebra.
“In my PhD studies here in Copenhagen, I will continue to look at the actions of groups on C*-algebras. However, my focus is now on the crossed products. I am interested in how properties of the crossed product relate to dynamical and topological aspects of the action,” says Alexander.
