Jan Steinebrunner, postdoc
Jan Steinebrunner started on 1 August 2022 as a postdoc associated with the AG section and the GeoTop Centre. He will be working with Søren Galatius and Nathalie Wahl.
Jan's interests concern anything homotopical, but his research focuses on the study of moduli spaces of manifolds "BDiff(M)" using techniques from homotopy theory. Concretely, he's studying how these moduli spaces assemble into higher algebraic structures, such as bordism categories or operads, with the goal of using these structures to recover information about more classical objects such as the cohomology of mapping class groups of surfaces.
This work has also led him to think about new ways of approaching infinity-operads and some of their cousins such as cyclic/modular infinity-operads, and infinity-properads.
Jan received his undergraduate degrees from the University of Freiburg, Germany, before moving to the UK where he completed a PhD under the supervision of Ulrike Tillmann. He then started a research fellowship at Gonville and Caius College in Cambridge in 2021, which is currently on pause while he is visiting Copenhagen for one year.
