Jinyang Liu, 3+5 PhD student
Jinyang Liu will start as a 3+5 PhD student from 1 September 2023 in the Statistics and Probability Theory Section, with Munir Hiabu as his primary supervisor.
Jinyang is originally from China but moved to Denmark when he was younger. He holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Copenhagen. He defended his bachelor’s thesis, "Super Learners", in June of 2023. The bachelor's project was supervised by Thomas Gerds from the Section of Biostatistics (Department of Public Health) and Niels Richard Hansen from the Department of Mathematical Sciences (MATH).
Super learners is a machine learning method that combines different learning algorithms to create an ensemble learner that achieves minimal predictive error.
Jinyang will attain his master’s degree and PhD in the next five years. His research project will involve developing new regression methods capable of modelling high-dimensional and complex data using machine learning and semiparametric theory. His aim is to employ statistical methods to better understand and explain machine learning.
You can meet Jinyang in room 04.03.03.
