Martin Helmer, postdoc at SPT
Martin Helmer started 1 September 2017 as a postdoc at the Department, affiliated with the Section for Statistics and Probability Theory (SPT). His postdoc-mentor is Elisenda Feliu.
Martin completed his PhD in 2015 at the University of Western Ontario supervised by Eric Schost. From 2015 to 2017 Martin was an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley, mentored by Bernd Sturmfels.
Martin's primary research interest is to construct computational and theoretic tools to aid in understanding algebraic geometry and its applications. Broadly he is interested in algebraic geometry (theoretical, computational, and applied) and in related topics in computer algebra. He is particularly interested in practical methods in intersection theory, polynomial system solving and combinatorial algebraic geometry.
