Giovanni Pantuso, associate professor in Operations Research
The Dean has appointed Giovanni Pantuso as associate professor in Operations Research at the Department of Mathematical Sciences from 1 October 2017. He will be affiliated with the Section of Insurance and Economics.
Giovanni took his Master's degree in Management Engineering with specialisation on Logistics, Materials, and Supply Chain Management in 2010 from Università degli Studi della Calabria (Italy). The title of his thesis was: "A tabu search heuristic for the maritime inventory routing problem” developed in collaboration with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU (Trondheim, Norway).
In the fall of 2010, due to his interest in Operations Research and maritime transportation, he started a PhD program at NTNU in Trondheim and in February 2014 he received a PhD in Operation Research with a thesis on Stochastic Optimisation methods for maritime transportation problems.
After that, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Technical University of Denmark where he started applying stochastic optimisation techniques to energy problems.
In September 2015 Giovanni was employed as a postdoc here at UCPH. He has continued working on two- and multi-stage stochastic programming and their applications to energy and transportation problems.
Today, Giovanni’s main research interests remain in area of decision making under uncertainty, and thus stochastic programming, with particular emphasis on solution methods and scenario generation, as well as applications to areas such as city logistics, energy, sports and statistics.
