MATH professor: Ramsey curse is bogus
A celebrity dies when the English footballer Aaron Ramsey scores. That's the story reported on the internet and in the English media. Pure nonsense, says Professor Rolf Poulsen to the magazine Videnskab.dk.
David Bowie, Steve Jobs, Osama bin Laden, Muammar Gaddafi and Whitney Houston are allegedly victims of the Ramsey curse. They all died shortly after a Ramsey-scoring.
Does it sound far-fetched? Well, it is, writes Videnskab.dk:
"There are several reasons why this is nonsense. One can begin by examining whether there is a coincidence with all Aaron Ramsey's goals. I just looked after at Wikipedia, and he has scored more than 40 goals, and the list of dead celebrities is not that long. That alone shows the lack of evidence," says Rolf Poulsen, a professor at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at University of Copenhagen.
