SCIENCE PhD Prize to Alexander Sokol
The SCIENCE PhD Prize has just been awarded for the first time. The Faculty awarded three outstanding young scientists, all of whom have had some impressive PhD programmes. One of them is Alexander Sokol from MATH.
Laura Vang Rasmussen, Alexander Sokol and Lars Behrendt were each awarded 25,000 kr. for their noble efforts.
Alexander Sokol was awarded for his impressive PhD project "Statistical methods for complex and high dimensional model." Alexander has achieved a number of excellent results, both in the PhD programme and with his thesis, which is one of the best papers at the Department of Mathematical Sciences in a number of years, both in terms of originality and thoroughness.
The dissertation consists of nine articles containing ground-breaking ideas that bear witness to Alexander's broad knowledge and scientific maturity. The PhD assessment committee has concluded that Alexander's thesis contains an impressive collection of interesting and new ideas and results, and that several of the evidence is technically very demanding and inventive.
