Professor Steffen Lauritzen has received the Humboldt Prize

The Humboldt Research Award has been granted to Professor Steffen Lauritzen, professor in statistics at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, in recognition of his past accomplishments in research and teaching.

The Technical University of Denmark has appointed three new members to their Board, including Professor Tobias Holck Colding, math professor at both MIT and UCPH.

Danish research centre on threshold of quantum revolution

Within a few decades, quantum physics will reshape society as we know it. This will include the quantum computer, among other things, now being developed by researchers worldwide. The Villum Foundation has provided 30 million kroner in funding for a new research center at the University of Copenhagen where quantum computer software is to be developed.

Culture Night 2016 at the Department

Nearly 900 guests chose to spend time at the Culture Night 2016 at the H.C. Ørsted Institute where the departments of Mathematics, Chemistry and Computer Science had invited to activities all night.

Giacomo De Palma, postdoc at QMATH

Giacomo De Palma has joined the department on 1st October 2016 as a postdoc with the Villum Centre of Excellence for the Mathematics of Quantum Theory (QMATH). His postdoc mentor is Matthias Christandl.

Mathematician receives Carlsberg Foundation Research Award 2016

Professors Morten Broberg and Tobias Holck Colding received the Carlsberg Foundation Research Prize 2016 for excellent research in international development law and mathematics, respectively.

MATH professor chair of mathematics commission

The high school students must be proficient in math. A new commission must find ways to achieve that goal. Chairman of the commission is Professor Niels Grønbæk, Department of Mathematical Sciences, UCPH.

Markus Hausmann, postdoc at SYM

Markus Hausmann is hired as a postdoc from September 1st, 2016, in a three year position at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Centre for Symmetry and Deformation.

Joshua Hunt, PhD student at SYM

Joshua Hunt started at the University of Copenhagen on September 1st, 2016. He will be working with the Centre for Symmetry and Deformation (SYM), with Jesper Grodal as his supervisor.

Niels Martin Møller, assistant professor

Niels Martin Møller joined the University of Copenhagen on August 1st, 2016, as tenure-track assistant professor in mathematics. He will be affiliated with the section of Geometric Analysis and Mathematical Physics.

Jonas Peters, associate professor in Statistics

Jonas Peters is employed as associate professor from 17 August 2016. He will be affiliated with the research group Statistics and Probability Theory.

Nordstat poster prize

Frederik Riis Mikkelsen, a PhD student at MATH, won honors and prizes in a poster competition at the conference Nordstat 2016.

More math students

The Mathematics study programme has received 37 percent more applications this year. It is the largest increase among the undergraduate programs in the SCIENCE Faculty. Actuarial Mathematics has 33 percent more applicants, Mathematics-Economics 4 percent.

Mads Bonde Raad, PhD student

Mads Bonde Raad is employed as a PhD in the Statistics and Probability group, and will work at the research group Dynamical Systems Interdisciplinary Network.
