Dustin Clausen: A homotopy-theoretic approach to reciprocity laws in number theory

Abstract:  "Reciprocity laws", broadly speaking, are simply-stated but mysterious facts in number theory which give global relationships between local objects.  I'll talk about how some fairly natural homotopy-theoretic constructions provide an explanation for some of these reciprocity laws, starting with the original one, the quadratic reciprocity law.
