Title: Homological stability of diffeomorphism groups and splitting complexes of manifolds

Abstract: The most substantial step in the proof of homological stability of diffeomorphism groups is to show that certain complexes, called splitting complexes, are highly connected.
In this talk I will define these and give a detailed outline of the proof of their high connectivity, explaining the different techniques that appear along the way.
