Title: Counting curves on an elliptically fibred threefold over a del Pezzo surface.

Abstract: There is a construction due to Hirzebruch of a Calabi-Yau threefold which is elliptically fibred over a del Pezzo surface of degree 8. This threefold has been studied by physicists, and they have produced many different conjectural formulae for the counts of rational curves in these threefolds. We will go over in this talk a discussion of the construction of the threefold as well as a proof of some of the generating functions for these counts. This is joint work with N. Yui.
