Dealing with Jokers: stable and unstable realisations
The Joker is an A(1) module (where A(1) denotes a certain subHopf algebra of the mod 2 Steenrod algebra). Using iterated doubling there are similar modules over the subHopf algebra s A(n). I will discuss the stable (non)realisability of these by spectra. I will also discuss unstable realisability, and in particular show that there are some interesting connections with representation theory of G_2 and the 2-compact group DW_3.
