Title: Stable modular cohomology of classical groups

Abstract: In his paper computing the K-theory of finite fields, Quillen showed that the mod-p homology of the stable general linear group over a finite field of characteristic p is trivial.  I'll talk about joint work with Nathalie Wahl showing that, when p is odd, the stable symplectic and orthogonal groups similarly lack mod-p homology.
