Operator algebra seminar

Abstract: In this talk we introduce two numerical invariants that capture how well a group can embed into a uniformly convex Banach space and how well the group can act properly and isometrically on a uniformly convex Banach space. These are called the non-equivariant and equivariant compressions of the group. We show algebraic consequences of the group if the compression is large enough and we give examples of the behaviour of compression under different group constructions.
