Seminar: What is ... a Smale space?
Valerio Proietti will talk about: What is a Smale space?
This week Valerio will tell us what a Smale space is. He has been so kind as to provide a little teaser:
Smale spaces are topological spaces endowed with a discrete-time evolution law. This evolution can be decomposed in expanding and contracting directions. I will give definitions and examples of Smale spaces and I will outline a possible approach to classify these obejcts, by associating algebraic invariants to them.
Valerio has also provided a short list of requirements: basic point-set topology, notion of metric space, notion of group.
(Familiarity with Cech (co)homology could help but is not necessary.)
This lecture is part of the "What is..?" seminar.
