Quantum Information Pioneer Appointed Affiliated Professor

The Dean has appointed Charles H. Bennett of IBM, a pioneer of quantum information science, affiliated professor at the Department of Mathematics.

Mathematical models contributes to the green transition

Independent Research Fund Denmark supports 65 research projects on green conversion. Associate Professor Trine Krogh Boomsma from the Department of Mathematical Sciences participates. She will find new mathematical models for how to couple planning in the various energy sectors.

A thesis on statistical problems in DNA identification has been assessed by the Danish Mathematical Society as the country's best thesis submitted in 2019. On 11 September [POSTPONED!], Malte Bødkergaard Nielsen will be presented with the Edlund-DMF Thesis Prize of DKK 15,000.

Opening symposium in the new GeoTop Centre

Coronavirus family tree can reveal new transmission chains

Researchers at the QMATH Centre have used unconventional methods to identify coronavirus transmission chains. An advanced family tree of the virus’ development can provide an exceptionally accurate overview of how the virus was carried into Denmark and its subsequent spread domestically. The researchers hope that their tool will prove useful for contact tracing as new outbreaks flare up locally.

Obituary: Professor Erik Kjær Pedersen has passed away

It was with great sadness that the members of the department learned that Erik Kjær Pedersen passed away on May 24, 2020, at a hospital in Florida after a long period of illness. Erik was 74 years old.
